“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times,
if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
- Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Created on commission.
8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm)
Watercolor, Prismacolor colored pencils, and gesso on illustration board

(Detail)
This is an illustration of the classic Harry Potter spell, “lumos,” being cast with the appropriate hand motion included. Along the left side, we have a description of the lumos spell, along with the Latin derivative. In the top left corner, we have the hand motion for “expecto patronum,” then a description of the spell across the top.
Running down the right side is a description of the “nox” spell (used to extinguish a glowing wand), then the accompanying hand motion in the bottom right corner.

And, of course, the wand is based on Harry’s classic holly/phoenix feather wand.
(I researched….a lot….of Harry Potter Wiki articles for this painting. NO REGRETS.)
